Well, I've decided to scratch up the cash to get the parts for a rifle I'm gonna build this winter. I've wore my fingers down to nubbins on this keyboard lookin' at every website I can find that has all the parts and pieces I'm gonna need, and the longer I look the more confused I get.
Do I just find all the stuff I need and then try to find a stock with the inletting, or do I just get a "kit" from somewhere like Log Cabin or TOTW?
I've narrowed things down to a .40 caliber caplock in a Tennessee Mountain Rifle, and I'm partial to a Chambers-built Siler lock.
I've built several kit guns, and one from scratch with some help, so I'm gonna do this one by myself.
Any information or additional sources would be appreciated.

Thanks!

fw707,
I don't know where in KY you are? If close enough to drive, I'd head down just North of Nashville and visit Tip Curtis. That way you could pick out the parts and wood yourself.
PD

Well, you can get parts from different places, but if you want a swamped barrel you might want to get the barrel and stock from the same source. Probably the only correct lock for a southern gun would be the late Ketland. It is much easier to deal with only one supplier if you can. Just my thoughts Bill

Heck then you get up about 5am, get to Tip's & spend the morning & early afternoon & be home round dark......... :hmm: What a plan ! :applause:
Last time I was there he has some really nice TN stocks cut for swamped barrels & some had Siler inlets & some had a MG Lock inlet. I bought one of these TN stocks to build some day. Good thing about going to Tip's is you can lay the entire rifle out right there on the counter & have Thousands of dif parts to choose from, as he has a tremendous inventory. He has parts for half a dozen variations of TN rifles. :winking:

Now he may be a dollar higher or lower on this or that, but hey, it IS in front of you so you can SEE it all & get what ya want, and it is all Quality too. When you are all done setting it up, you will be within $25 of anyone elses parts set + or - & now You KNOW what ya got & you Picked your stock & parts....... To me that means a whole lot......

Well, I'm gonna be in the general vicinity of Nashville in October, so I might just drop by Tip's and pick up the stuff. I had pondered about going to Friendship and buying it all at once there, but I'm gonna be gone somewhere else then. Can y'all give me an address and ph. number for Tip's place. I couldn't find it in the supplier's links.

Thanks! :hatsoff:

Edit:
I found it in an old post.
Thanks again.

fw707, Musketman added it to the links last week. Just make sure you call first as it's a one man shop, and he's on the road alot. He's only a couple of miles off of I-65 jus south of the kentucky line. You won't regret the trip.
Bill

He is north of Nashville off I-65, exit #112 & go West on that road to Cross Plains (about 5 miles) When ya come into town there is a Barbecue place on the left side with a big Pig as a sign, just past it is Jernican road, turn left on it & he is about a 1/2 mile down that road on the left. You will top a rise & see a large limestown house on the left, turn in there & look left & the shop is on the left drive. Tel# 615-654-4445 If he doesn't answer, leave a message & he is good to return your call. He is always happy for a visitor to stop & is quite cordial.

PS: Have several hours to spend, as you won't want to leave......... :)

Tip sounds like good folks. I'm lookin' forward to the visit.
Thanks for the info!! :hatsoff:
