It was 7 degrees this morning and every step I took in the snow sounded like an elephant. I waited around for it to warm up so I could move a little quieter.
I came up on 4 deer browsing in some brush at about 50 yards. They caught me in the open so it was going to be a off hand shot. (I hate those) My wife had given me orders to take a small deer if I could so I picked out one of the smaller ones. I only had a head or neck shot because of the brush and I didn't trust myself for a try at a head shot so I settled the sights on the neck and lit the fire.
The ball took out the spine and just broke the skin on the off side. I was shooting 60 grns. of Goex 3f, .400 97 grn cast ball and .18 pillowticking patches. It's the first deer I've taken with this rifle. It's a little feller but I'm all kinda tickled with this one. I built this rifle and it's my first flint.
I was going to post a pic. but I can't seem to figure it out. I'm not real sharp on the ole puter.
Thanks for letting me rattle.
