Hey fellers!

Now that the house is finished and we're in and so is my office I have a question I've been dying to ask!!!! I'm finally, definitely in the market for a flint pistol. I'm figgerin' a kit as I've built several rifles and a couple pistols from kits.....hopefully I've improved! How does the Dixie/Pedersoli Kentucky pistol stack up? Is the lock any account? I have a catalog ordered from the Track to see if they have any pistol kits. My suspiscion is the materials in their kits will be better than Dixies. Is that true? Any experiences, good or bad, or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm workin' on a DP Kentucky flinter in .54 from DGW right now. So far, I like it very much. The wood on the stock is cheap (half heartwood, half sapwood), but that's just a cosmetic thing. Other than that, I've been impressed, it shoots great (yeah, I cheated and shot it before it was done), the kit has been going together really nice, all in all, no complaints. For $185, it's hard to find anything wrong with this pistol.

You can see my thread about it here: Pistol Kit Thread

Track's does have a single Kentucky kit available, and I'm sure it's great quality, but it's a lot more expensive, and I didn't want to drop that kind of cash for my first kit.

Good luck, let us know what you decide!

$150???

Sold -- I'll take it!

LOL

Seriously, very nice gun and similar to what I have been wanting.

I need to watch Track more closely these days.

Static & Tans thanks for the info and insight. Static, especialy for the good pictures of the process and shooting. Hope you're enjoying your pistol. It looks good!

I received my TOTW catalog a couple days ago and I'm going to order their Kentucky Pistol kit. I'm going to wait a while and watch to see if any go on sale. The TOTW kit has a maple stock and there's no questioning the Bailes lock plus it's available in calibers other than 45 which was another criteria.

Again, thanks!

With todays market and the value of the dollar decreasing due to the "EURO" ....Most prices are rising.....

Tanstaafl, what calibre is that? How long is that barrel? That's a very nice pistol...I really like it.

Also, I got a rifle kit from TOW and it was way beyond my abilities. How much work was required to build that pistol? Did you have to inlett the barrel and tang much?

Just curious.

I have a new in the box Deer Creek American 45 flint pistol kit I would take $135.00 for, plus $10.00 shipping and insurance. The plastic on the kit has not even been broken. ET :redthumb:

keep us posted on how you like the TOTW kit. I am leaning to buying on as soon as I get the cash.
More expensive, but made in the good old USA.

You may want to consider the lenght of the barrel if you are planing on ever to hunt with it . some states require the barrel to be a mim of 12 inches .
Jim Chambers has them 13 inches and a nice looking kit with a swamped barrel circa 1775-1815
