Stump, did you and Claude discuss anything concerning a group buy of flints? It was posted some time ago and I was just curious if you got around to it or is it something to forgett about.

Does anyone know how to reach Tom Fuller in England? He's got the best Brandon flint. Of course you can buy it from TOW if you don't mind paying an arm and leg. I had a knapper in England that I used to purchase 1000 flints per year but he's gone down the Green River now.

I hear you guys have lots of flint laying around in Texas. Can't you find a local knapper to knapp some of it? Wish i had some here to try knapping with. All i have is a bunch of Obsidian. Knapps ok for arrowheads and such, but is to brittle for flintlocks. Want to trade some flint for some Obsidian? ::

MOst of the flint here is Chert. Not very good quality. The best is from England. Either Brandon or the white Dover flint

I got a Tradegun from a guy down your way. It came with a piece of that knapped chert in it. Kind of a white color. Sure sparked good. I use Tom Fullers flints that i get at a BP shop in Springfield, but they are $1.50 ea. I would like to try to learn to knapp my own.

Last I knew we were still trying to find the witches' broom to present Him.

The powder fell through the cracks (too many laws) but I believe the flint was being pursued. I'll pester Himself to see where we stand.

Well, as far as the flints go, we're between a cock and a hard place ( HAW! I love flintlock humor).

We were turned down by one of Tom Fuller's largest U.S. distributors. See, the problem is there is no Muzzleloader Forum physical address. We exist only on everyone's PC and one server. We need a distributor willing to take on compiling a bunch of loose orders and then shipping them to many addresses, at lower than their normal cut for this extra work. Not much incentive on their part.

Ohhh Well, ya tried. Maybe you should start knapping them yourself and then you could give them away as gifts to all those that reach at least .54 cal. status. ::

How about TOW for flints? I wonder if flint from flint ridge (Ohio) could work in a flintlock?

i've managed to make three flints for my chambers delux lock and so far i got 20 shots before touching it up. give me a little time to find some decent cores and i'll send you a couple.knapper ,i hear your name bein called,ya out there???

Brushbuster, i would appreciate it. You have any use for some nice chunks of Obsidian? I have 11 fist sized or larger pieces of it. Some of them are black and some are an orangeish color.

Making the flints, particularly spauls is pretty easy, the hard part is finding so good quality pieces large enough to work with, I have made some spauls with three usable sides, hamiltons book on Frontier guns gives a good "how to" on making both flints and spauls.
