Ok I was on ebay and seen good prices on flint. I would love to try Knapping but I Need to know what is Heat treating?

Will the flint not knapp right without it?

Will it not throw a spark without it?

Heat treating the stone makes it molecularly different so it will flake better into long flakes for making arrow heads and spear points. Flints for guns do not need to be heat treated. Some kinds of stone spark less with heat treating as it makes it softer, giving less spark.
