Nice I have killed one large bore with a flinter. It was in Oklahoma used my .40 cal. southern Mnt. rifle and a 89 gr. round ball with 70 gr. 3f . It was a head shot ( only one I would take) @ 20 yds. head on. That little ball fragmentated the skull cap.

Mr. Sean I pretty much hunt at night. When I'm getting pictures of big boars I always turn my cameras off. Of you notice when camera goes off hogs are looking at it they hear the shutter. Opening and closing. I have a bunch of red night hunting lights and I make some myself I wear a head lamp with a red led when I here the hogs coming or notice a big boar slipping in I turn it on my front sight is painted bright white. I can see my back sight to lone up my front sight and I hunt close ground blond to bait is 12 yards

I'll have to do some testing and see if my old eyes can duplicate what you do. I use red glow sticks [Nothing seems to notice them, deer Hogs even Raccoon] placed behind the bait but in line with my Ground blind (So Two glowsticks about 8 inches off the ground, then about 10 feet from that is the bait, then about 50 yards from that is my Ground blind. . . All in a strait line) That way it is pitch black, I have no lights on except the red glowsticks. When anything eats the bait they pass between me and the Glowsticks and one or both red lights blink out Works great, even half asleep in the blind that red light blinking out sure gets your attention!

One I got off crewdawg Traditions Hawken woodsman .50 the previous owner installed a L&R lock. And put rmc Berliner I use English flints snapped by Tom fuller 5/8. Also use some 5/8X3/4

The more I read about these modern day black powder hunters, it seems a lot of them are "carry over" modern day mentality of '375 H & H magnum or .458 Elephant & Rhino gun power requirements to hunt Deer and Wild Bore with HEAVY "ANTI TANK" PROJECTELS moving at HYPER VELOCITY!
My 2 brothers and I hunted boar at PARCH CORN CREEK WILDERNESS LODGE close to Jamestown Tenn back in the early 70's using 2 flintlocks and a cap lock, all 3 guns had fixed iron sights. All 3 were .45 cal using 135 grn. patched round balls with 80 grain powder loads. All 3 dropped in there tracks, yardage was between 20 and 30 yards in heavily wooded, hilly type land. 2 of the boar were around 180 lbs and my younger brothers was about 220 lbs AND BIG! ALL SHOTS were in the heart / lung area. So what I am saying is PRACTICE SHOT PLACEMENT & hunting, stalking tactics rather than depending on using modern anti tank hyper velocity missiles to take game at long yardages. Itworked for the early settlers and will still work today!

stink koat, with all respect sir there is a huge difference to a 200 lb pig and some of the ones I kill, I hunt at night in the nasty thickets of East Texas, where the hogs wallow ind wallows that have red clay. they get hard like a brick. 100 hogs or so killed in 4 years with black powder rifles open sighted, you are right I want the biggest bullet per caliber I can use. most ranchesin east texas are less than 50 acres with most people owning 2-10 acres. don't want my pig runni8ng off on another property. this is the size of boar I hunt. ive got over 35 photo albums filled with pictures of big

Nice hogs. I am down near College Station. Before I had kids and all the time sink holes that come with them (well worth it!) I used to hunt the Trinity bottoms and out towards Crockett. Big hogs in those woods. And most shots are at conversational ranges in the woods.

Popped one through both shoulders, not behind...through, with a 45-70 loaded with 450 grn LBTs. He rolled complete over and started moving with just his back legs pushing. That pig is one of the few that I am certain wanted me dead. The one mounted in my office hung off both ends of my F250 tailgate.

I used to tell that joke about the elephant hunter in the bar that was asked why he used a .577 Nitro Express...
