I picked this up and am wondering if this is a kit anyone recognized. .50 cal what I believe is a RE Davis modified Jaeger lock and a swamped octagon to round barrel with the wedding ring transition. Definitely not an Italian piece the lock mortise has chisel marked wood in it

It’s a custom built pistol not a Italian or Spanish kit. Nice looking one at that. Keep an eye on that crack or fix it before it gets worse. Lock and barrel could be made by about anyone. Take it apart and look on the barrel and the backside of the lock for makers marks. Post those pics. Is it a smoothbore or rifled?

I noticed a D in a circle someone told me possibly an re Davis lock haven’t had time to remove barrel (rifled) . What would you recommend to fix the crack under the lock panel? I don’t think it was ever loaded, there was sanding dust on the cleaning patches I used has a chambers white lighting vent liner

I've used the Davis Jaegar lock a couple times and its a honking big lock! If thats what it is someone did a ton, well around anyway, of filing on it and a pretty nice job at that! Love your pistol, nice line to it!!!!

There’s something wrong with it... it eats powder lol thank you all!

Lovely pistol. With small cracks I usually use Devcon clear epoxy. Normally try to spread the crack slightly and work the epoxy into the crack then clamp until dry. A little wax spread along the outer surfaces beforehand makes for easier cleanup afterward and reduce the need for any finish repair. If there are no chips of wood missing there will be a thin line visible but it's secure and shouldn't crack again
