I picked up a flintlock with the cursive name on it of Buchele. It is new not hardened except for the springs, I think it will take the older size flint, 5/8 X 5/8"

Here are some pic of the markings on both sides. I have hardened thew parts and fit the pan, looks like a nice little lock? any info on will be appreciated!

William Buchele was a highly regarded maker. A search in the forums here will turn up dozens of posts about him and his guns. That's likely a handmade lock, as the time he was active there weren't many sources for parts.

Well I did a little experimenting and measuring, looks like I will need the 5/8 x 5/8 flints?

Now if flints will ever be available again?

I've seen this same lock design several times over the years. Don't think it is handmade, but a small production job. In his time, Buchele was well respected. His book Recreating the American Longrifle is what I learned from early on.
Jim,

That is the ONE thing we have in common with regard to rifle building.

I have also seen a few of those over the years. I have an unmarked mule ear lock that I have reason to believe also was produced by him at one time. He worked in the optical grinding industry if memory serves, so he certainly would have had the connections to make runs of locks.
