I realize my below question is open ended based on price, but I would like some guidance and help on a manufacturere and price range for a target pistol. My thought is a 45 cal.

I have a very reliable and accurate under hammer pistol.

I have found a Ruger Old Army pistol in excellent shape at a fair price. The trigger and front sight will need to be changed out for match shooting.

I am considering buying a flint lock pistol to shoot in matches. Most matches require a cap lock, revolver and a flint lock.

Thoughts and guidance are greatly needed as I know nothing about flint locks, except that I do not own one.

Thanks

Richard

Here is a Dixie catalog link to the Flint pistols;
FLINT PISTOLS AT DIXIE

Some shooting matches won't allow a "saw handled" pistol so I don't know if the Mortimer would do.

If cost is no object, the "LePage" would be my choice.
If cost is an object, I would build my own, but I understand that for most people that isn't an option. If I built a Flint target pistol with a quality lock and a single set trigger I would expect to pay at least $250 just for parts. No, I'm not offering to build a pistol. I just thought folks should know that quality parts aren't cheap.

If I were on a budget, I would probably go for the Pedersoli Kentucky pistol.
The trigger pull on the Kentucky isn't the greatest but then, the Kentucky doesn't cost an arm and a leg either.
As I recall, there isn't much beyond polishing the sear and full cock notch that can be done to fix it.

If I may offer a suggestion the flint pistols built by The Gun Works are very well made with excellent fit and finish and have a set trigger.I bought one for my wife and she is very pleased with it.It will cost more than the Pederosoli but would be better for target shooting.

:bow: I fully agree with using the Gun Works---with Pedersoli you get a nice gun---but the finish, trigger and lock may be something else. The Gun Works will build a gun to your specs and deliver at a price not much more than a Pedersoli. The lock and triggers are excellent and the smith that made my English Gentleman's Pistol put a finish on the tiger maple stock that is absolutely outstanding. :thumbsup:
