So I sat in a back corner of a game lands for half a day today...had two turkeys come feeding along picking up acorns within shotgun range but of course the season is closed and I'm holding a rifle anyway.

But on 4-5 occasions, I had a squirrel(s) as close as 10 feet while I sat there dead still...could have swatted them with a broom.

Taking them with the flintlock at 10' would have been nothing more than murder, so I let them walk and kept hoping a deer might show itself...none did...still a beautiful day in the woods never-the-less...I'll just wait until after deer season closes to chase squirrels in Jan/Feb.

Sounds like a fine day none the less. Any day in the woods is a good thing. Enjoy them when you can, life is too short not to.

Heck roundball i wouldnt shootem neither if i were deer huntin.Them deer are little tuffer to come by than them pesky skwerls. They do provide good intertainment though :)

I bet for every story about taking a deer, there are two storied like mine.

On a Turkey hunt I got up just before dawn and nature was calling. No, not the wildlife, The previous nites chile was wanting out.

Taking my folding privi seat, my entrenching shovel and some TP, I walked about 60 yards from camp to a secluded spot.
Seating myself, I was just letting nature take her course and 3 young spike bucks walked out of the Manzanita/pines less than 20 yards from me. They stopped, took a 20 second look at me and then walked slowly back into the brush.

Had it been deer season, I'm sure it would have been 6 or 8 Turkeys instead of those deer. :shocking:

there's nothing like sitting in your treestand and hear some scratching comeing down the tree above ya and look up and this tree rat is looking back at ya 3' above you hanging upside down and thinking what the hell you are....................bob
