Hi John

Congratulations. A nice lock to add to a lock collection. I think (?) the original Brown Bess locks were about 7" long. If you get a chance, take a photo of You holding the lock in your open hand.

I’ll try and take one when I’m back home next week. Unfortunate I don’t have a normal sized lock to compare it to

Due to the insane heat this weekend, I am back early with a pic

WOW!!! Thanks for the additional photo. This photo shows, better than any ruler, the colossal size of this lock. Larger than any other flintlock I've seen. I think it is even larger than the wall gun lock copy from The Rifle Shoppe. I can make out the broad arrow stamp on the lock plate. But can't make out the stamp in the center. Suppose it's the British Crown.
Again, great find. And well suited for a lock collection.

I’ll do the same with the wheellocks. I do have relatively small hands, so it looks a bit more dramatic than it really is.

The crown is slightly more visible in person, and then several crisp inventory or control marks. I will see if a can get the lighting right to photograph them.

Trying to decipher marks on locks has felt like a combination of this:
