Horn #74 is done, and possibly my most favorite yet. I consider it as a piece of artwork as much as a functioning Powder Horn. It would be a lovely addition to any collection.
I started engraving this horn with no master design at all, did the crazy artist-thing and just went with the flow and was happy with where it was taking me.
At first I was unhappy with the standard black-inked banding/borders at the base, but somehow decided to introduce color. I have some good color India Ink and settled on three colors- Black, Brown and Red. By blending them on application with my pen nib I was able to create some nice shading and also a sense of warmth and age. It really speaks "Folk-Art" to me, which is what I love.
It is a Left-side carry and measures 15" down the back. The Walnut base plug is 2.5" in diameter and has a nicely heat-twisted staple.
I am proudly offering this horn for sale for $510, USPS shipped and insured. International shipping available.
Thanks for looking!
