I was wondering if anybody has try to forge a flint knapping hammer I seen a couple of them online but I have a forge and been wanting more projects to make and I just got my first flintlock and I like to have a hammer and if I can make one I rather have one I made thanks

Most knapping hammers are similar to above, made of iron or steel. Sparking is not a problem. However, I made one of brass. Forget why brass... :hmm: ...just had some scrap on hand and easier to work with.

Iron that has not been steeled is less likely to spark on a flint. If you make your tool out of steel it can spark, however unlikely. Saw on old boy that tapped an unprimed tulle and dropped a spark though the touch hole and set it off. Luckly it was pointed safly. With care that would never be a problem but that scared me and since then I've used brass. Most likely an unreasonable fear, and I can't justify it. But I use the brass any way :wink:
