Well not really a story teller but we headed into central part of the state Sunday, mid morning. We arrived and set up camp by 3:00. Campsite all set up, loaded some powder and ball in the 54 and headed out for a look around. Not too often do we run into other hunters out here but we did about 1/2 mile from camp. Nice guys that were pellet gun hunters, they were very interested in my rock lock so we visited and had a little stump shooting session. We had a little fun doing something theyā€™ve never done before and they left with smiles on their faces. We proceeded to an old burn area that has been more than productive for us in the past years. Things were looking good and the spring is still working like the deer magnet that they are. We first seen about 4 does and 4 fawns followed by a forked horn. We watched them pass through the pinions at 40 yards without a care in the world.
After about an hour went by the forked horn showed back up and I powdered my frizzen and got talked out of shooting a deer when I know we could do better. We headed up the trail back towards camp a few hundred yards down the trail I spotted the 4x3 about 30 yards to my left and smoke flew and the work began!šŸ˜ average buck for our state but the first with a flintlock that I put together! It look us longer to get their than hunting for three hours.

Pretty good story telln in my book. Thanks for taking us there.
I miss spending time out west. Since my oldest moved back in 2021 I've not taken the trip. Assisting the ranchers with the vermin problem is a hoot. But spending time in a backcountry camp still calls to me.

Glad of your success, and with the rifle you crafted.
