anyone have any expierence with french amber flints. Are they better than the black English ones? I just bought some on Ebay, he has all sizes and the ones I bought worked out to about $1.40 each with shipping  Only thing I dont like is the French part

???

I don't think the fact that they were correct about the lack of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq effects the quality of flint found in their geographic location. It's good stuff.

The flintlock as we recognize it is, after all, a French design.

I tried a couple dozen 3/4" Horst & McCann french amber flints...the length of them varied so much that half were too short to bother with...culled and resold those to someone who had a smaller pistol lock...the others worked no better than the Tom Fuller black English flints I normally use, and were more expensive...it was a worthwhile experience as part of the ML learning process but have no plans to buy any more...yours may be fine.

oops hope I didnt step on any french toes. I do like french fries!! :v

What about the Statue of Liberty? And I for one appreciate the fact that LaFayette and some French ships showed up when they did. :blah:

I believe what BigBang was referring to was the same thing that Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf meant when he said, "Going to war without the French is the same as going deer hunting without your accordion."

Couldn't have done it without DeGrasse, that's for sure. Finest example there ever was of a coalition capitalizing on the strength of each partner. Denied the Brits the use of their erstwhile advantage in strategic mobility and it was all over but the treaty signing.

But we're off topic here

Big bang,
'twas a French blondie that lit my yeager when I killed the doe in early ML season here in PA. that one seems to be a good one. But then my early Germanic lock from Chambers is easy on flints and throws fire like a grinding wheel on good chisel steel. Hee Hee! :blah:
God bless.

ok ok I even own a capote
:v And even further off-topic, I spent some time in Normandy a few years back and couldn't spend a franc... once those ol' boys figured out I was American and not English I had plenty of friends.

And, if not for the French, we wouldn't have fielded a viable air squadron in WWI. We had to rely on Nieuport 11's and 28's, Sampson's and Spad VII's and XIII's.

The French are arrogant and abrasive. But then, have you ever been around American tourists overseas? If a word isn't understood YELL IT! That will help. :shake:

The amber flints are tops, but I stll rely on Tom Fuller's black English. The French flints are maybe 15% better for 30% more expense. They look great on certain guns.

I bought some French Blondes to use in my Chambers English lock! They work great. Got a deer the first day! I Also have a supply of Tom Fuller's. They seem about the same to me.

I bought a few from Horst & McCans just to try them out. they work fine but I,ll stick with the T Fuller flints. Can see no reason to change.

My, My, my. Listen to all this french bashing. It's so easy, isn't it.

What good can one say about a nation whose hasn't had any good troops since William left Normandy?

What can one say about a nation whose most illlustrious war hero is a WOMAN, who was betrayd by a gutless king.

I have always said "if you build a fire for a frenchman, you warm him for a day. If you set him on fire, he is warm for the rest of his life." :rotf:

I think the US has repaid the French many times over during WWI and WWII...if it wasn't for the US, German would be their national language by now

The black english flints are excellent flints and easier to get a hold of. I buy them by the hunnerds and cull them out to suit my gun. Every gun is different and my culls are somebody elses
gold. I put the culls on the blanket.

Thanks France... :hatsoff:

Where do you think that mark on the right side of the statues' face came from? Back in the 80's when they were reinforcing the statue, the workers had no place to relieve themselves so they used a window in the crown. No kidding!

Howdy BB,

He = Me :grin:

I sell them for John Horst on E-bay. BTW, if anyone is curious about the flints, and their performance, etc. Send me a private message and I'll sent you a flint in the appropriate size to try out for yourself. (as long as you're not greedy or in a hurry..... I'm kinda slow)
