melsdad, very nice work on your knife! How long between coats of tung oil? I usually do one coat every 24 hours or so....

I think the "French" description is currently in modern mainstream use for the pistol grip type butcher/kitchen knives. They seem to be called "French" style by those not in any way affiliated with historical documention.

I think you mean "Old Dominion Forge." :wink: He does have several similar knives pictured- his explanation is that although they are popularly called French, the pistol grip was seen all over.
 
Yeah you're right. I had a senior moment. Bethel forge is Randy Wolf. Right? That's why I just put my name on mine. No mixups that way. As long as I remember my name, I'll get by.

Yes I did one coat everyday until I acheived the look I was after.
