The Ft. Frederick market fair is coming up on April 23 to 26. This is their 21st year and I will be there again. Spring time in Maryland after a hard winter. Always a good time. Any body else making the trip?

Would love to, but it would take two days just to get there driving from Southwest Missouri, and two days to get back.
Same thing keeps me from going to the big North - South Skirmish Association shoot in Winchester, Virginia.

My wife and I will be there Fri and Sat. We plan on doing alot of walking and shopping.
Pilgrim, indeed they are. There are some really bad videos about the Market Fair. None do it half the justice it deserves. Truly. It really is a great time to be had by reenactors as well as plain old shooters and the history-interested-public at large.
It's kinda like going to a sutler's market fair back in time but then THEY let people from the future come too, until closing time, then you need be encamped in (now juried I believe) period...

Yep, I'll be there. The campers and the sutlers have always been juried, but day trippers are very welcome....and your modern clothing is fine... but you may experience temporal recognition shift if you come in modern duds.
TRS? That's when somebody at a living history event stares at you in your modern clothing, and stares very hard, for your face looks familiar, but the person staring has never seen you in jeans and a t-shirt but has seen you in historic clothing, so they can't quite place who you are, ....so stare trying to remember.... :haha: Laugh at such an absurd idea all you want but you will see it on a regular basis as it bothers the heck out of one's memory...
The ONLY concentration of more vendors with the stuff needed by living history buffs would be Kalamazoo. Ft. Frederick is 18th century centric, so you won't find guns/clothing that appeared in history during the fur trade...being sold by sutlers... but that doesn't mean you won't find stuff that may be used during those eras. After all a pot from 1790 could still be in use by the owner as late as 1820...no?
The other thing you will find that I don't remember at Kalamazoo...is blanket traders. Folks are allowed to sell stuff they made, or used in the past, as long as they follow the event rules for time periods for the items. You can find some real bargains, and I highly recommend Saturday morning for those folks with young kids who are looking for clothing...for people get rid of their kid's old but still good clothing, since the kids have grown at very good prices. Why Saturday morning? Fleamarket and yard sale tactics...get there early to find the best and most bargains.
Finally you might be able to meet jokers like myself from the forum or other forums, and you can then see if I'm as big a pain in the arse in person as I am online. :shocked2:

Dude, last time I went to Market Faire the couple who run a unit I am a member of, and reenacted with, who are also artisan sutlers there were talking to me and my girlfriend at their shop. I was in civies, and being subtle, but finally her insightful husband just interupted her and said "No, hun, this is Alden, it's ALDEN, from the Mid-Atlantic States. You are confusing him with someone else."
Well, obviosuly with another dedicated and dashing reenactor... At least she recognized me. I couldn't promise the same under similar circumstances to be honest. I'd been at events with them from Maryland to Massachusetts, even slept on the same floors, for years. We were both so embarrassed.

HEY folks...especially you day-trip folks...who are also new to the market fair...
I will be there tomorrow, and the rest of the event, God willing...but that's the plan. I was there with the family yesterday. First time. Great time, met many very friendly people, and man the stuff... Like Disney world for me.

Clay Smith and Allen Sandy as well as those who trade as the "Honest Brothers" were there. Others whose names I don't know/can't recall were there as well.
