I recently started visiting local Colorado Rendezvous, Encampment and Re-enactment activities. My hopes were high about learning more and even deciding if I would like to "dress up" and participate.
I have been disappointed in my experiences. There was nothing negative about the activities, it is just that participation was very sparse.
In September, the Trapper's Day Rendezvous had the lowest level of participation in memory. Last weekend, the Colonial Encampment had, maybe, 4 tents and no merchants.
Last year, many of these gatherings were flooded out, but expectation was that there would be a rebound this year. Instead, there were very few attendees.
Maybe I am getting involved just when interest is waning. Maybe my baby boomer population, the foundation of these interests and activities is becoming too old to participate.
I may have to plan to travel to other states to experience more vital Rendezvouses and encampments, although that can be difficult and expensive.
Anyway, I am just venting. Perhaps there will be a resurgence in interest, I hope.
