Full cock in stand

I have a siler lock on my flint. I just started deer hunting with it this year. When I pull from half cock to full cock to prepare to shoot, the “click” can be heard in the next county over. On this particular lock, you can’t fire it until the set trigger is pulled. To avoid the loud click I put it on full cock and do not set the trigger. I should also state that I hunt on our own land by myself and only do this when I get into the stand and am settled in. I also do not lower the rifle down with it at full cock. Is there a better way? Wondering what you other hunters do

I don't bring it to half cock until I see a deer, then I can ride the trigger so the lock is quiet, set the trigger when I want to shoot and pull the front...My set trigger can be shot with the front one but I'm just used to doing it this way and can do it quickly...

I may not have said it correctly. It can be cocked without setting the trigger. It’s just really loud when cocking

If you hold the front trigger back as you cock, the trigger levers should clear the notches and not click. With the hammer past the full cock notch position, the hammer can be lowered silently into the full cock notch. Do get the hammer stall.

I do as Grenadier1758 suggested. But to add to it, when the hammer is all the way back from the half cock position, release the trigger and then slowly lower the cock till it catches. I do this when I am pretty sure the deer is heading my way, not at the last minute. When "I" believe the deer is committed, then I pull the set trigger, which is a much lighter click. If it does change direction and goes another way, lift the frizzen, lower the cock, then put it back on half cock, and lower the frizzen to cover the pan. Been doing it this way for years. DANNY

Make a coyote bark or crow call at the same time to cover it up. The deer won't even look up I'm guessing !

After the rut any noise can make a buck disappear. I use a stall over the frizzen.

I made a frizzen cover once I am settled in my spot I full cock and leave the frizzen cover on. If I move to another spot I put it on half cock.

I am confused as to what the Frizzen cover is needed for. I agree that you should rest your finger on the trigger as you go to full cock. It will reduce the mettalic click. If I need to let down I open the frizzen and ride the hammer down then go back to half cock. Always worked for me.

To me even on half cock and walking I feel much safer with in covering the frizzen just incase I trip or fall.

The hammer stall keeps your frizzen dry and clean, but also works as a sort of safety. It is made of stout leather and if you try to fire your flintlock with it down on the frizzen all you get is a soft "thud" when the flint hits the leather. The flint doesn't penetrate the leather so no sparks. No ignition.

Especially nice when trekking or hunting with a group, you can have your gun on half cock and with the frizzen cover as a additional safety. I like it in the stand so I can have the rifle on full cock especially in thick cove where the deer can appear within feet of you.

I get how it works but useless to me. Off chance I'm in the woulds with precipitation I carry the rifle with the lock tucked up under my armpit. Stays more than clean n dry. I mostly still hunt so not in a stand. I don't climb trees and never will. Haha. Leave that to the apes. Frizzell stall is just one more gadget to me. I live by the KISS rule. If it works for other folks so be it. Enjoy. I hunt alone so it don't affect me at all. Encourage yall to do whatever keeps you safe and enjoyin the journey.
