Full Stock Hawken?

I was curious if anyone had done a full stock conversion on a Hawkens Rifle?

I have an Investarms half stock Hawkens that I wish were a full stock. I was originally thinking of building a Jaeger Kit, but for the cost of a new stock I could have a rifle more to my liking.

Would a Hawken stock be work much to sell to help pay for the full stock?

If you guys have converted your half stock Hawken to full stock I would love to see pictures.

Haven't done that on a "Hawkin" but have done quite a few CVA's & Traditions. I make my own stocks from a blank, but Track Wolf sells full stocks for those guns I believe. I'll try for a pic...who knows mite come over. CVA mt. rifle..Tom

Nice rifles. What are the barrel lengths on those? Those were both half stocks and you made both the full stocks?

The thing with this type of re-do---is most people won't even recognize them for what their family history really is. Mt. rifle is 15/16" X 32" .50 cal. I made her from a kit in 1977. Frontier is 15/16" X 28" .50 cal. made from a kit in 1979, all my kids learned to shoot with the frontier 4 of 'em, and she still shoots a tite group. ....Tom

And yes 1/2 stocks of something wood. Mt. rifle is nice curly maple, Frontier is black walnut. If you click on pic, you can see the whole project. Tom

Thanks again Tom I like the way those look. I just finished switching the percusion lock and .50 cal barrel on my rifle to a flintlock and .54 cal barrel. Been working on it and enjoying shooting it. Still like the looks of the full stocked Hawkens rifles.

Any chance you would be able to somehow scan your drawing full size and send me a copy that I could print out and tape together? I have all the woodworking tools I need to make a stock, but not the know how to design it on my own.

BTW way do really nice work and it was fun to look through all the process in your photo album. To bad we are on opposite sides of the country I would love to be able to sit down with you and learn about stock making.

And I see that Mt. Rifle is sporting a nice 4-screw capbox, one of the real early ones! Absolutely Beautiful! What ya charge to do that with my 58 big bore? :grin:

Very nice looking conversion. I am guessing that the stock you have is the Fancy Maple version? What sights did you put on it? Thanks for sharing your rifle with me.

The stock is TOTW precarved grade 3

The rear sight is the adjustable Hawken rear sight.

A dovetail was cut in the barrel, the sight hides the factory screw holes.




The front sight is a silver blade in a dovetail cut behind the factory front sight dovetail. The factory dovetail was filled with a dovetailed piece of metal filed to match the barrel flats.

Never had to convert, but its as easy as stripping the funriture, disguarding the stock and reinlaying it into a new block
