I am thinking about getting the full stock from TOTW. It is for up to a 33 1/2" barrel. Will such a short barrel look kind of weird in a full stock? Has anyone done this? I would like to see pictures before I decide that this is what I want to do. By the way it will be a flinter. Thanks.

I have a short barreled jaeger as well as a short barreled fowler. Both are flintlocks and full stocked and I think they look great...

No pics yet. Funny you should mention it, but that is exactly the build I am doing now. I am just up to the wood shaping stage. The design is one of my own, and may not be acceptable to post on this forum. Not PC/HC enough. If you PM me your e-addy, I'll share the pics of my TC halfstock, that has very similar lines, that I did last summer.

My mid-1700's style Ba$tard gun has a 33" swamped barrel on it.

It was built using the Pecatonica River "Transitional" stock.

Although there is much arguing about the guns of the mid 1700's and what they might have looked like there is some evidence that indicates some shorter barreled "Jaeger" shaped rifles likely existed.

As the 1750's were only about 26 years before the Revolutionary War, and indeed, the French/Indian wars costs were major reasons for England to try to tax the colonies leading to the war the use of rifles of this style should be acceptable in any Revolutionary War re-enactments.

Here is one I did exactly what you want to do. How much woodworking ability do you have? I don't consider this to be a beginners option. And I have been a cabinet maker for 35+ years. The term “95% inletted” is generous, to say the least. I found it no more difficult to make a stock from a blank, just took a little longer. If ya got the fire in your gut, however, go for it.

After doing the second one, I decided to retire and leave the gun building to the likes of Zonie.
It didn't take long to realize cabinet making and gun building do not transfer talents well. On the bright side, though, this one is my son's favorite flintlock.

ebiggs, that is pretty much what I want to do. I want to trim mine in iron though. I was thinking a second barrel wedge also. That's a good looking rifle. Do you have a pic of the muzzle cap? I have built 3 other rifles from kits, hopefully that will help. Thanks.

Here are a couple pictures of a percussion with TOTW stock and Cabelas Hawken parts.

This isn't mine, I just found it and copied as many pics as they had so I could try and build one just like it someday.
BTW You asked for short barrel pics. :idunno:

Blade#2 - 7.5ft
Blade#3 - 10ft

:hmm:

Do you have a pic of the muzzle cap?

This is the only photo of it I found in my Photobucket account.

It really isn't a very good job and I am sure you can do much better.

I looked at all of the modifications and their prices. I decided to build a new rifle instead of restocking this one. For about $75.00 more I can build what I want. I am going to build a Southern Mountain in .45 with a 42" barrel. Thanks for the help.
