I just got this barrel from ebay.On the one bottom side flat it says xxx best grade gr douglas 45 cal. I am going to build a heavy bench and over the log rifle .It is a 1 1/2" that is 41" long and 43" with the false muzzle. The barrel alone weighs 20 lbs.gunstocksplus is gonna cut me a stock for her.She has dovetails cut for a set of fixed low open sights and holes tapped to wear a set of redfield sights for on the bench..This will be the biggest muzzle-loader project I have ever done.Where can I find out info on heavy -bench muzzleloaders? I wonder when this barrel was made?I am anxious to get her shootin!!!

If you want to make a bench gun, why not consider making it an underhammer design? That would really be the way to go.

Well, I have been thinking about an under-hammer.I sent a money order to blue grouse on feb.15 and havent got my action and stock yet.He keeps saying that they should be coming in.Do you think that type of action and stock is strong enough for this 20lb. barrel? I figured that once my under-hammer action comes, I can screw the breech-plug in finger tight and try it in the action to see how it all looks and feels....Do you shoot an under-hammer???

No, I primarily shoot flint, but I know somebody that loves them things and he makes his own actions. You can buy the actions from Log Cabin, I think they will cost about $75.00.

They don't appear to be to difficult to assemble. I do think I'll try one someday.
