Just an FYI for what's it's worth...I started using this GI Medium Weapons Oil in the 70's.
It's a medium weight oil with white Lithium grease mixed / suspended in it...I keep an old washcloth damp with it, laying on a large gallon size plastic Ziploc bag on the bench so its always handy.
Last thing I do before casing a gun is to completely wipe down all exterior wood and metal.
I buy a case of 24 bottles from Army/Navy stores every few years...has been an outstanding general purpose gun lube for almost 40 years now.

ayup, what Robby said ... didn't know you could still get the stuff...
Getting harder to find for sure...the G.I. replacement since our involvement in the gulf back in the 90's is one that dries and doesn't leave an oily film that sand will stick to.

So a couple years ago I bought what I figured would cover my remaining needs...2 cases of 24-4oz bottles each.
Only use 2-3 bottles a year so I'm pretty sure I won't ever be buying any more gun oil...LOL

Cheaper than Dirt stocks the stuff, and several others.
It's good that it works for you. I use a Gun Oil to care for my firearms too, just not that brand.

Supply & demand...price keeps going up...today, Cheaper than Dirt wants $50/dozen + $15 S&H.

When I bought my 2 cases of 24 each from an Army Surplus store just a couple years ago, it was $4/bottle delivered to my front porch.

Wow, that's the good stuff. I haven't seen that in years. The Marine Corps uses CLP now, it doesn't really dry and it surely does clog up with that middle eastern moon dust if your not careful with the quantity and application. Seems we keep taking something that works and replacing it with something else. Too bad.

I have found using Barricade in my bores during storage and Renaissance Wax on the exterior metal and wood to provide exceptional protection. Museums use Renaissance Wax to preserve all sorts of materials, metals, wood and leather being just three of them.

That's exactly my technique, different specialized products for different applications.

While LSA has been a mainstay military issue for all around gun care, it was just that because of simplicity and ease of carry.
Much like Ballitsol was to German military for decades,, an all around OK product to use.
Is it the best for everything? No.

Not saying a guy shouldn't use either product, or that their exclusive use is bad.
It's just that many folks use different specific products for specific needs.
Like roundball the OP, he also buy's WD40 by the case, he uses alot of it successfully.

I have used the old standby G.I. gun oil since Nam. Army surplus stores are the general source.Since I used up what I had left. For long term storage I use Spray on 709 anti rust spray :idunno:

Yep. I grew up with the stuff.
Welcome home.

I have a bottle and a spray can of "Triflon", a lubricant that contains Teflon. It dries and acts as a lube. I bought it many years ago and have used it now and then and it does seem to work as advertised. I don't even know it they still make it.

I use a a product called Kramer's Antique Restorer. It is essentially beeswax and other 'secret' ingrediants dissolved in turpentine and is used on fine wood furniture. I put it on wood and (exterior) metal as a protectant. But, I have heard so much about Ballistol that I'm about to start using that for everything, short of brushing my teeth.

H#ll, when I went in, PL-S and PL-M were still the standard and using LSA was just starting to spread beyond that "Mattel" :rotf: rifle.

Based upon the suggestion of a guide from Alaska, I have been using CorrisonX wipe on. Since I have been using it I haven't had a speck of red on anything.

You use it for wipe downs or for that and lubrication?
Just overall exterior protective wipe down of all wood & metal before being cased. (lock internals and bores get WD40)
