Just finished setting up two belt pouches for this season...a .54/.28ga Flint smoothbore with #6 shot...and a .62cal Flint smoothbore with PRBs.

Planning to squirrel hunt the .28ga the last 3 Saturday mornings in October, then start deer hunting November 4th with the .62cal.

Going out tomorrow to make a natural blind setup for November, that overlooks a good trail crossing I found down in a bottom, between soybean fields and a big thick sanctuary.

Going to throw together a few scattered, low brush piles around a clump of trees that's 40yds East of the trail crossing...wind is from the West 95% of the time...and if it's not I won't hunt it...just might get lucky with that .62cal !

Sounds like you've got a good plan, Roundball  I was lookin' over the "inventory" myself; Ordered some .535s and .360s for the flinters, couple of extra ball starters (like to have one in each rifle's bag besides the ones in the shooting box), couple of wrought iron vent picks. Gettin' ready is half the fun...or at least it beats sittin' around and waitin' till hunting season :haha:

It really is isn't it...practice, planning, and preparation keeps me tuned in all year...

Think I'll put a piece of clothes pin in the jaws of the .54 and practice dry-firing at a knot in the privacy fence. Can't get to the range every weekend :cursing: (but I've been going more often  ).

I'm really getting pumped up about the coming season. This will be my first season with the .....ah......traditional rifle. I am on a 1700 ac. lease with 4 other hunters but I'm the only ML hunter in the group. The others have stands and feeders in place, but there is plenty of room there for me to work from ground blinds.
