I liked the feel of the Jackie Brown fowler that I got so much that I've traded the Cumberland Fowler(75cal/42" bbl) for another J.B. in 62cal/42" bbl. This one has the Siler lock instead of the Queen Anne. I really like the Q.A. lock, are the Siler locks as good? Anyway, talk to ya'll later. Got to get ready for work. :v

I am thinking that a JB is going to be my next gun and I would appreciate your input and photos of your gun if possible. I am looking for a 42" barrel 20 gauge for hunting rather than re-enacting.

I love the Large Siler on my JB. It is dependable, fast, and easy on flints. I have been averaging around 100 shots per flint with it. I would have liked to have had that Cumberland. Wish i had known.
Are you getting the Virginia Fowler he has for sale? I would have gotten it several weeks ago, but the length of pull was too long for me. I ordered a Lancaster Fowler instead. I can't wait to get it. let us know how your new gun shoots, patch/ball combo etc...
I have a Lancaster(least I think that's what it is, looks like the pic he has under "Lancaster".) which has the cheek piece on the stock. I think this is the Carolina model. Sorry I didn't give ya' a heads up Rebel but I didn't think you'd be interested what with having the double 12 back and all. Anyway, I like the 20ga/62 cal a lot better then the 75cal/11ga because it's lighter and seems to swing a bit easier. For birds and rabbits I bet it'll be excellent. If I were going to hunt turkey on a regular basis then the 11ga might come into it's own or for a Hog gun it'd be a tad better because of bore size but those little 20ga guns are really sweet. :thumbsup:
All i hunt any more is turkey, deer and possibly elk, so the .11 would have been a good one i think. Oh well, i have the Jackie Brown shootin' pretty good. Check the target pic in the Hey Swamp Rat thread.

They CAN be good locks, depending on who puts them together.
If not being PC or protraying late 18th century or later is OK with the owner they are fine.
I do associate the single barrel fowling gun with an earlier design and style as well though. Love those Chambers locks or the new Davis fowler lock.

Couple of reasons,
1 that is what was on the gun when i bought it. I didn't buy it new, i got it from another Froum member.
2 Because it works really well and i am not a reinactor just a hunter. so could care less about what it looks like as long as it functions right.

I also have a Large Siler that is not correct on one of my guns, but works to well to change. I was just curious.
I wish that builders and suppliers would take greater pains to get the right locks on guns when they are readily available though. I got mine whe I did not know better and have been annoyed with the supplier ever since.
(This one was not from Jackie -- he put a correct lock on the gun that he built for me.)

As long as this works as well as it does i don't care what kind of lock it is. :grin: Like i said, i am not into re-inacting only hunting, but do like the history involved in the sport. And since getting in to flinters, and now smoothbore flinters, i figure that is about all i will use from now on, except for my C&B revolver.

In my honest opinion, if the lock is built right (Which all three are) and the trigger is set right (Which all three are) There's no discernable difference. They are both equally reliable, just as fast, and they both shoot great.
A note here: Flints last a whole season in both of them.
