Many of you guys are often asking what gun to start with.
In our classified ads there are "Three" Lyman GPR rifles for sale, one "was" mine (it is sold pending)
There is a .54 percussion, and a new .50 flint.
I have custom guns that are worth ten times the asking prices of these, but they don't shoot any better.
Mine is gone, but hey guys, wake up...shooting season is here, and hunting season, just around the corner.
Some of the guys here, have stripped the finish off the factory guns, and added their own personal touches to the guns, resulting in outstanding custom guns, all for less than the price of the parts to build one.
For under $400 there is none better!
I know dollars are always tight, but these guns are great, and lifetime bargains, go get them.

I fully agree! Just bought a GPR kit as a "truck" gun. Even though when building it I was kind of disapointed of the inletting and some other things, it worked out well and it is truly a shooter! Best of all, I am not so worried about it as I would be of a more expencive one. They are great guns!! And as you said, you are hard pressed to find just parts for under $ 400 to built a gun....

Thanks Old Ford. That rifle already has two guys drooling to get their hands on it. Hope I got both into the fold this last weekend. They are still talking about shooting my Flintlock. Now they will have their own. Now I have to learn alot and be a good teacher.
Thanks Fox :hatsoff:

Old Ford, I couldn't agree more. The GPR isn't just a great first gun, it's a great gun all around. The quality is there and so is the accuracy and durability. I've built a few and ran into one particularly problematic kit, but all in all, they're easily worth the money.

I agree. I had a 54 gpr flinter and loved it but ended up trading it off for something else and then i bought a .54 cva big bore mountain rifle percussion.

Thanks for that OldFord ... I'll add that the posted price on the .54 flint version I have listed includes shipping to the lower 48.

Hey AZ, I hope you get a few serious bites.
There are several less expensive starter guns out there, Traditions, CVA to name a couple.
But Thompson Center, and Lyman stand up to use and time.
The locks last forever.
It is too bad that Lyman did not produce a full stock hawken, or a lite .36, or .40 cal version of their GPR.
It would have boosted their sales, and opened new markets.
Pedersolli has some nice guns, but the prices are getting near custom guns.
Don't get me wrong guys, some of the early Investarms are, and were very good guns, but needed help in design.
That should get the pot stirring :blah: :blah:

And too bad there are no makers of after-market drop in replacement barrels for them, so you could get those options along with a smooth 28 ga or even a 20 ga.... but the fat lady is not singing yet, so there is still a chance it could happen.
