Getting the powder in the horn

being a single-handed kind of guy, I made the spout of my horn to accept the spout on my funnel, that way all I have to do is insert the funnel into my horn and pour away. the funnel stays nestled in the recesses of my shooting bag so snuggly that I forget it's even there. here it is inserted into the spout of my horn:

for you vets out there, the funnel is the cone from a 40mm HEDP round.
it it is in it's intended role:

Every time I've tried using my hand as a funnel, I end up making a huge mess. I'm about to fit my horn with a brass threaded insert for filling.

This is why I usually use a flask rather than a horn, so I can screw off the cap & fill it. But my primer horns I fill with a plastic funnel/cap that screws directly onto the can.

These little plastic spouts they sell for ? 1-2 bucks & work great for loading horns & most ML parts venders have them. They screw on the end of the powder can & you inset the spout directly into the horn & fill it.

The little brass funnels work good but then ya have 3 things to hold when trying to fill one (horn, can, funnel) & ya always end of with a funnel full of powder when the horn is full & then ya say........ now what do I do..... & end up spilling some.

I have in the past used paper funnels and my hand as above--lately and entirely non=pc, I use a plastic funnel whose hole is close to the horn hole, but won't fit into it--the outside diameter of the funnel about equals that of the horn spout-- to keep the powder flow aligned, I use scotch tape to mate the funnel and horn--no spills.

Hobbles, there's a good idea. I hadn't thought about that, but my stove has a funnel with it. I normally don't mind as I only have 1 horn and it's for FFG. I use flasks for FFFG, Pyro, 777, etc.

When you go to the Doctor office, ask the Doctor for some of the plastic things that he uses to look in your ears with. They are a plastic cover that goes over the light he looks in your ears with. There are two sizes so get at least one of each. They work great.

I use a small copper funnel I made just for this purpose. It is small enough that it lives at the bottom of my shooting bag when not in use. This was inspired by a dear friend of mine, as it struck me as rather odd to see him dressed in his finest at Rendezvous filling his powder horn using a plastic funnel......

Here's what I use; The smaller one is made from a .223 cal. cartrige, and the larger one is of .243 cal. They both work for me. Just screw them on your can of goex and fill er up!
