I've not run into that issue with the breech plug, but I was shooting Goex 3FG not 2FG.

I've also shot pellets and other BP sub's with no issues.

Griz,
The pellet rests on that point you're not supposed to break up the pellet. That may be why you had trouble, and why grinding off the point helped. It was designed to evenly spread the flame over the bottom of the pellet for consistent ignition but I think that is a fine example of over-engineering.
