I took my trade gun out yesterday and ran around the woods. It did really well, I’m trying to figure out loads for the round ball and shot. Hope you enjoy the footage!

Like ml in general smoothies are addictive, I almost always reach for a smoothbore when going to the range. And of my four long guns now only one is a rifle.
Back in the seventies I saw an article on North Star and Curly, I thought ‘who would want a smooth bore for any thing bigger than turkey.”
Then I found out
That who would be me.

Great pics . Yeah , just keep shootin her . Try different ball sizes .595 and .600 , I think you said it was 20 ga. on F.B. , .595 patched and .600 naked . I like low charges 60-65 gr. 2F ( or 3F) but I see folks on here shooting high and stupid high charges which aren't necessary but to each their own . See which combos shoot the best with ball ....then go to shot , ain't smoothbores great ?! ..... I like once again low charges to keep groups smaller 60-65 gr. powder and once of shot for rabbit or squirrel , I use #5 on rabbit and squirrel , and #4 on turkey .... Turkey I use 1 1/4 -1 1/2 oz shotb. I use grass , corn meal is good , or my fav. , out side of hornets nest material for wadding over powder and over shot wadding ... It just disintegrates when it leaves the Muzzle . Good stuff .... and won't burn so no leaf fires if squirrel huntin . Make sure your gun is firing fast , ignition wise ....if not that needs addressed before anything else . Prime with same powder as main charge . Enjoy !

I'd tried all kinds of loads for my fusil, in the end I found its load by mistake.

I loaded 90gn Swiss 2f fb lubed felt wad fb bare 0.600 ball and then realised I didn't have any thin cards. So I used a lubed patch over the ball rammed firm and voilà found my load. Since have shot my first game (a fox) at 40 yards.

Just keep trying things and enjoy the ride

You have a good looking gun. I like the tacks that are tastefully done. I have a gun that is very similar to your gun but haven't been able to get out and shoot it due to a bad back. Hopefully got the back fixed and will be able to get out more in a couple of weeks of healing. I really miss the shooting.
