Here is a well marked Gibbs and Tiffany under hammer boot pistol. The gun is very high condition. There is minor wood loss on the right side and left of the breech that is barely perceptible shown in the pictures. This pistol is number 184 indicating very early production. Approximately 3000 were made between 1833 to 1838. More information is contained in the Imgur photo album.

The muzze; mics out between 28.7 and 30.7. Most of the histroy I've seen list the 4" barrel at .28 cal. A guy on GI listed it at .25 Don't have any mold that small so that's about the best I can do.

Thanks for inquiry.

Really interesting older pistols! Way back then the surgeon was much more feared than the bullet. If the bullet didn't kill you outright, the surgeon finished the job.
So you didn't need a . 60 cal. ball, a little teeny .31 cal. was just as good.
These pistols have weathered the ages of time vert well, and are in good condition.
Someone will get a true treasure for a very modest price.
