Hmmmmmm, that kinda looks like a GPR. I am going to order one in about a month or so. If it shows up like that what is their return policy?

Probably a corny question, , but I'll ask anyway.
Would the grain line between the light and dark grain make for a weak spot?? Seems almost like it might crack along that line. Just a thought..

Mebee so .. mebee not .. but it sure would cause a crack in my sanity trying to stain and finish it! :hmm: :shocked2: :blah:

If I'm correct that is walnut, the light colored section is the outer section of the log, and is much softer than the dark inner section, I think it is probably weaker also. I would not use it.

not a big deal, just a little sap wood .that will stain out the same as the other color if you do it right. :hmm:

Davy:
I gotta tell ya buddy, you crack me up. :rotf:
When you said it " would cause a crack in your sanity ", A flashback of that deer crack door bell button flashed into my mind. :hmm:

Not to worry Davy. Can't crack what you haven't got to start with. :rotf: :blah:

Too true .. I am safe then .. cuz my one feeble brain cell has been overwrought with all this extry XMAS cheer this year!! :hmm: :hatsoff:

Men, What you are looking at in that stock is called Character. I would choose that stock over any solid colored stock in the lot. Truly a one of a Kind. Is it for sale?

Headhunter

yes indeed would make a very nice conversation peice and on hell of a purdy stock. ME THINKS

This is the picture that was on a suppliers website. Mine arrived and is a nice even piece. When I saw this one I almost gagged. If it was mine I think I'd return it.

Thanks for the memories.... I built a 1/2 scale N.W. Trade Gun for my oldest son about 25 years ago. Had a bicolor stock also but on the toe. It was a .50 ca. smoothbore, with a CVA flint lock. I sectiond a dragon from Curly Gostomski's shop at the time for the side plate. Hope it's still out there somewhere, and enjoying life.

I do have to agree with some of the other posters here...why not stain it a 2 tone , with red ocre "or modern equivalent" and the rest walnut, then lynseed oil the rest..
I think its quite a fine looking piece of stock.

Real pretty!
