can anyone guide to a "how to" site to make a sewing glove,,,i doubt that is the propper name for it,,what i need is something to protect a couple of fingers while i'm pushing a glovers needle through leather,,,holy fangers...err..i mean..Lee

Lee,

Tandy sells a leather sewing palm thing that almost reminds me of a bowlers wrist bace. Big hole for your thumb, then it wraps around and ties to itself. You push the stubborn ones thru with your palm and leaves your fingers free to work.

I tried glovers needles, but I like to pre-poke my holes and use blunt needles for my leather work. I get a straighter seam and it don't hurt as bad or bleed as much.

Another thing I've done, Get a piece of medium-thick scrap leather about 1"x3" or so and cut a finger-size hole near one end. Stick your finger thru the hole and flip the other end up to cover your finger when you need a little more pressure.

I use a pair of small needle nose pliers that have no serrations on them. I find that works for me. I just hold them in my hand all during a stitching session. I start the needle through the whole with my fingers and then push with the pliers and finish by pulling the needle on through. Hope this makes sense.

There's a quilter's thing that is basically a end of a thumb from a leather glove, with a strap on it.

Don't know what they are called but they work great.

Thanks y'all, i really appreciate it, found a picture and can make it from looking at that,,,Lee

Like Dusty Bob suggested, I like the leverage that a smooth jawed pair of jeweler's needle nosed pliers give! Especially on multi-thicknesses of leather! That eye is the hard part to pull through!
