I have 1/2 a can of Elephant 24/99 FFFg.
IMO, it's dirty stuff...3 shots and wipe. I also have some more recient Elephant I haven't shot yet. If it's worse than the 24/99 I may have to go out and buy a cannon or something to use it in.

You know I have been noting one peculiar thing about the Elephant lot#24/99.

Those who have shot the FFg powder like myself have been singing it's praises.

Those who have shot the FFFg powder have been cursing it.

It make one think eh?

Teleoceras,
Try the Graf&Sons b/p it is Mfg by Wano
Schwarzpulver and imported by Schuetzen under G&S name.
Runs like $10 a pound not counting HAZMAT $20 and shipping.
So the more you buy the cheaper it is. You can mix Grns
also from one pound to a maximum of 50. Contact at
www.grafs.com.

The can I bought I got at Dennison's, not Graf's. It was not cheaper than Goex. It was a new thing and I decided to try it. I liked it since I swab between shots anyway. Several old timers remarked that it made my barrel "bleed" and that ment it was just about the perfect load for it according to them. Ignition was very good and the power is very good also. I killed a nice 200 pounder and a little doe using the powder that year. Both were pass thrus using 70 grain loads under .495 balls. One of those was right at sixty yards on a buck quartering away from me with the short barrel flinter carbine. I went back to Goex because the price is the same, the store to get it is closer to home, and I win a lot of my powder at the shoots where Goex is almost the universal choice.

Later in another discussion, someone mentioned that Graf's sold Swiss also. I called the local store to check on the Swiss. They said it is an order only item. They said everyone wants Goex so they are only going to carry it in the store. They then said that they would not be getting any of their own label in anymore either. It was not selling well against the Goex. At that time they still had some in St. Charles at the store, but it was the last. I don't know if Dennison's is still handling it or not. It does seem to be a good powder tho. It may be my imagination, but I think the ignition is just a little faster in the flinter with it than it is with Goex.

Like I mentioned earlier, the Graf's powder isn't on the website anymore. I'm going to call them up tomorrow and see if they have some FFg left over (hopefully 7 pounds). I don't use FFFg and I have plenty of Fg and FFFFg.

I posted this off topic in another thread, so I'm reposting it here, because I feel its that important.

If you like Goex, treat yourself to some Swiss or Schuetzen. Expensive, but Fantastic Stuff!

I got to try all four powders during the Vermont Renaissance Festival.

Elephant, dirty, greasy, nasty stuff. Got stuck with two cans of it. Glad they shut down the business.

Goex, good dependable, clean burning.

But the Swiss and the German stuff, WOW! What a difference!

Just :m2c:

:agree:

Why eat beans when you like and can afford caviar?

Swiss and Goex are pretty night and day shooting difference and Goex is really good powder.

Going to try Schuetzen soon. Great stuff huh?

:imo:

I called Graf's this morning and they did still have some of the Graf's powder (WANO powder). So I ordered up 7 pounds of FFg since that is all I can add to what I currently have.
