Goliad Massacre This Weekend.

For folks in SE Texas, come visit the Texas Army and Mexican Soldados at the Goliad Massacre this weekend.
The weather will be beautiful, and we'll be camping, shooting, and reenacting the Massacre at the Goliad State Park and Historic Site, south of Goliad.
Colonel Fannin and more than 400 of his troops were executed on the orders of Generalissimo Santa Ana. They were avenged on April 21, 1836 at San Jacinto.

I had a great time!
I met lots of great people, and learned a whole lot of history. We set up our tent camp inside the limestone walls of the Presidio de La Bahia. I didn't count, but there were probably over 50 tents, which filled the courtyard. At night, the only light was from the stars, the campfires, and the candles in the camps. The church bell chimed the quarter-hours, like they used to do, so we knew when to assemble for our skirmishes. The organizers fed us well on Saturday, and provided great weather, though it got pretty hot, but no rain.
I'm fairly new to this period of reenacting, and at other events, there are usually a lot more Texians, but here, there were a lot more Mexicans in their red and blue wool uniforms, which helped with the authenticity of the event. And it was chilling when we were told that we were being marched to Victoria, but were executed, and our bodies looted, not far from the Presidio, within 1/2 mile of one of the actual massacre sites.
A least the bluebonnets were in full bloom!

The town of Goliad is really pretty, with lots of old houses, a beautiful courthouse, and a bunch of shops in the old buildings around the square. My wife could spend all day shopping there.

So, yes, I had a good time!
Now I have to clean the burrs from my tent floor, and try not to let any of those stinging grass plants get into my yard.

I am really sorry I missed it. A guy flew in last week from Idaho to learn a little Texas History.Goliad was originally on his week long itinerary but it got shelved due to the storms up in East Texas last week. He did get to see Sabine Pass.Oh well someday maybe. At least it was enjoyed by some.

Did you happen to have any dealings with this Cotton buyer from Brandenburg ?

He seemed like a busy fellow. I believe I saw him sitting near the entrance of the Presidio, but as fancy-dressed as he was, I knew he wanted my money, so I stayed away. Might that have been you trying to raise money for the cause?
