I have already received some very helpful advice on the subject (thanks, Flint62Smoothie), but I have realized I am a little out of my depth. Specifically, resources on understanding how hardness, dimensions, and springiness all interact would be very helpful. Thanks!

Buy this little pamphlet from Track of the Wolf, by the late Kit Ravenshear.

You can see he had a bunch! I’ve never read that Vol 1 of the Craft & Practice, but maybe that goes into some theory? Anyone know?

Not sure that you can get a lot of information on the Internet and Youtube videos, and for books, I don't know, perhaps this one:
- Amazon.fr - Building a Percussion Lock: A muzzle Loading Firearm Project for the Home Shop - Davis, Glen, Knight-Davis, Stacey - Livres
Have look here:
- Gunsmithing - Gunsmithing Journal
- How to Make & Heat-Treat Flat Gun Springs - Gunsmithing Journal
