I traded a 30-30 for a Lyman GPR 54 CAL percussion today.I paid $75 for the 30-30 and had to refinish the stock, action and barrel. So with the cost of it and supplies to fix it $85.I have to re-brown the barrel and refinish the stock on the Lyman. It was a kit and was finished poorly. The barrel still cuts patches so Im guessing it hasnt had much use.Did I do a good or bad trade?

Well now, that makes a difference...

I must rethink my initial answer... :hmm: :haha:

A penny you say... :hmm:

What year was the penny?

Luck would have it that it was the extreamly rare 1943 copper penny worth $200'000.00 :haha:

About 40 1943 copper cents are known to remain in existence. They were most likely made by accident when copper blanks remained in the press as production began on the new steel pennies

How much are wheat pennies worth?Oh manure I think I got screwed :rotf: 1943 :shocked2: I gotta go tell that guy I traded that 30-30 needs a firing pin so he will trade me back.

You have just been imprinted, every time you pick up your newly acquired GPR you'll think of that "penny" and wonder: "what was the date on that?" :rotf:

The bad thing is I cut that half off when I made the part.So now that you say that I wont get any sleep tonight.Im gonna be hitting my fingers instead of nails with a hammer at work tommorow thanks to you :rotf:

It must have been rough to split a penny in half... :shocked2: :haha:

So, are you happy with your GPR? (even though you could have cut up a $200'000+ coin to git it)

Rub it in :haha: Im gonna give this one to my son when I refinish it.And Im not gonna bed the stock with $100 bills to make up the difference :rotf:

Well I can see you got the short end of the stick, but I'm willin' to make you whole. You send me the GPR and I'll find a beater .30-30 and send it and a wheat penny in exchange. No guarantees as to what year the penny was minted. :blah:

Around here .30-30 Model 94s are getting hard to find and expensive. The dealers say Winchester doesn't make them anymore and adjust the price accordingly.

I heard Winchesters are being made in Japan.Anyone else hear this?Maybe its just the bolt actions. But I have heard this from a few people.

I agree, Swampman.....those lever actions will only increase in value (in my opinion) due to the fact hat they won't be made any more.

This one I traded was made in 73 according to the serial number. Not a pre-64 or anything special :winking:

If the Model 94 had a stock refinish and reblue any collectors value would have been seriously degraded anyway. Given that, I would say that it was a fair trade for both parties.

Lord I know they made over 6 MILLION of them, how "collectable" can they be? :shake:
