I’m looking at an L&R flintlock to replace the standard flintlock on my Traditions “Hawken”. The lock that Track of the Wolf sells as a replacement for the Traditions flintlock in their current catalog absolutely will not fit (LR-02-F or C, page 197), not even close. However, they do have a lock called a Manton & Ashmore that is a perfect fit (LR-900, pg 186) It’s really nice that TOW has exact full size pictures!

The Manton & Ashmore lock is available with either a gooseneck or double-throated cock. I like the look of gooseneck cocks better, but I was wondering if there’s really a lot of difference in how well the two different types hold up? I’ve had parts break on a flintlock, but never the cock. Is there really a good reason to go with the double-throated?

Well I've got a couple Siler locks that have been being used for more than 30 years, haven't broken a cock yet, so I think I would go with the style that makes you smile. How about that it rhymes, anyway pick the one that pleases you and have fun unless there is a burning need for historical accuracy then go with the most correct appearance.
