Stopped by the local gun shop to see what they had in the case. They had a used Pietta-made Remington 1858 with 5.5" barrel. Great shape, but they wanted new Cabela's price for it.

They also had an old Jukar-made CVA Tower Pistol in the case for less than $40. Now I have a matched pair. All set for talk like a pirate day. I just have to work on the fit and finish to make them more exactly match.

They aren't quite the same, though. Anyone spot the major difference?

Lock plates and snail/drums are way different.

I always thought of Tower pistols as those terrible Japaneese things that were flintlock and say "TOWER" on the lock.

If you're ambitious you can cut dove tails for sights and have an accurate range pistol. The CVA Kentuckys I own are very accurate and I would suspect the Towers should be also. Enjoy your new bargain.

You might want to add some belt hooks if you want
to talk and walk like a pirate...

Arrrgh matey! She's missin' 'er ramrod. "At's different.

Y'ee'l hav' ta' keel haul the bloke what lost it!

'E'll not do that again!

I havn't seen one of those pistols in years. I always wanted one back in the 70's when CVA had them in their catalogs. I like the older one in your second pic better. Cool find.

The first muzzle loader I ever built was one of these. The flintlock kit was fun and I still have it after all these years. I put a bead front sight on it but never did add a rear one. Try to take it to the range at least once in a while

Wait a second!! Don, unless my eyes lie, those are round barreled smoothbore (unlike your CVA).

I don't think you meant for the OP to file dovetails in those thin barrel walls.

:v I'm guessing you just missed the barrel type.
If not and it can/should be done Then I guess I'll be  but I will have learned something new :)

I've seen these pistols up close and personal and the ones I handled were not thin barreled smoothbores but meaty rifled barrels with plenty of steel. Filing a dove tail into one would be a chore but doable.
