after pondering a week i finally said heck with it im gonna make some, and see how it turns out. i have 200 tc maxiballs that were unlubed so i mixed 1lb of beeswax and 1 lb of salt free lard. it made more then what i thought so i put the bullets in the pan and filled it up until it reached the top of the top groove. i appreciate everyones help and input, i just cant see spending 7to 8.00 a tube when i can make it alot cheaper. if it turns out to soft ill remelt and add a bit more beeswax. although messy i liked the idea of pouring it in medicine bottles and finger dipping

Nice!

I'm curious how pan lubing works out for you as I've considered it but don't have a properly sized "extractor", especially for the REALs.

It went really well, i learned alot the last couple hours. the 50-50 mix i believe for around 75 degrees its 80 in my house and they werent melting but not in direct sunlight either. they were tougher to get out of the lube pan then what i thought. i figured they would just pul out but i had to put some force. when i pushed them out they turned out perfect grooves filled perfectly nice and clean. ive got to figure out a better removal method maybe turn them over tap on with a dowel. the ones that didnt push out i just colored the grooves in with the chunks that broke.
On a good note i had the mess everywhere. i was thinking how am i gonna get this stuff cleaned up. simple warm water cleaned up with no greasy residue and wow my hands are soft.
After the warm water clean up i thought barrel of my ole .50 i believe you want a lube that is water soluable after washing my hands with warm water and wiping the counter i think this will help with fouling. Now im knew to this but i thank everyones input, without (The Muzzleloading forum) id never figured this out yall are a bunch of great men. ive got alot to learn.

get a piece of tubing the dia of the bullet and push over it, keep going and they will come out the other end neat and clean.

Howie, It looks like your lube will be a winner!

What I like about you is that you never give up!

You keep experimenting till you get it the way you want and works best for you!

You always do the research and ask alot of great questions. Lastly you experiment until you get it right!

Your a good man Howie, and you've come a long way in such a short time!

Your on the ball buddy!

Have a good one my friend!

Respectfully, Cowboy :hatsoff:

You did well. Exactly like I sometimes do. A tube of proper diameter pressed over will cut them out nicely.

if you know anybody who shoots BPCR calibers a fired 45/70 case works pretty good for 45cal maxi's & a 50/70 will work for yer 50cals. drill the primer pocket out & use a dowel to push them out. a fired 38 S&W case should work for 36cal

don't know what to tell ya about larger or smaller cals

Thank you men i appreciate it, im glad to have some awesome mentors, i do ask alot of questions as once i learn ill pass what ive learned to the next person. My ex father in law has a 45-70 so ill get some cases from him

On a good note, my primers came in today along with my .54 cal roundballs. i bought 2,000 primers. i have a shipment coming in thursday bought 10 boxes of the Hornady .54 425 bullet along with some .50 cal and .54 cal lubed wads for over the powder and under the bullet

Run the expander die into the 45-70 case, and it will open it up to the point where the bullet will slide in easily. The die will also flare the mouth just a bit to let the case slide over the bullet without cutting into the lead.

Cowboy, i need to get you down here at some point (with your new flintlock) and put you on a hog! by then im sure ill be casting my own bullets. Once i shoot these maxiballs up my
renegade is going to be dedicated to roundballs only. got use my my .54 for conicals if i can come up with a load that works

Just melt the maxi balls Howie instead of wasting powder shootin em them making RBs. And I see no reason for a conical in a 54. I killed quite a few hogs in the Sabine River bottoms with 7 1/2 shot, .40 and .50 round balls but mostly with 22 LR.
