Well....
Nothin to brag about. Even a little embarassing. Was standing on a ridge top daydreaming as usual and looked up, there was a deer at 40 yds, she looked a little small but an adult. I cracked off a round. soon as I pulled the trigger I realized I missed the shot. Shot over her, cause I didn't have the right sight alignment, too much post, not enough rear sight. The deer hopped a few yards with a tree between me and her,now about thirty yds. I froze while the deer was peering around. after a minute I realized I could sorta slide a couple of inches to the left and reload. I popped out the loading block, and powder while the dumbest deer in PA waited for me. It stepped from behind the tree and stood broadside for shot number two which did the trick.
Scouted out a new area today, supposed to have a lot of deer, and I have one more doe tag to fill. Got a late start cause I slept in till 5:30,After a hour and half of driving and almost hitting two deer on the way, I got out of the truck in the fog. walked up the path a minute and there was a doe standing at 50 yds. I thought that I wouldn't get much scouting done in the new area if I got a deer in the first 5 minutes so I let her go. Turned out that was the only shot I'd have this day. My son is going out later on this week and really wanted a report of the area. He uses an in-line, We'll have to see if we can convince him to use a proper black powder weapon and get read of that contraption. So after laboring up the mountain and looking for sign, and spooking a few deer I headed back to the truck in the rain. Latex gloves do a fair job of keeping the lock dry. Looks like I need more stuff, make a cows knee, buy a glove, and an orange hat. Man I lose something every time I head into the woods.
Till the next time:
