Got the permalyn lid off, First coat of finish on!

Thanks! I agree, it has really grown on me. I will leave it as is and just give it another coat or so of permalyn.

That is a beautiful chunk of maple. I think the color and contrast is perfect.
May I suggest a couple of more coats of the Permalyn applied with some white (extra fine) Scotchbrite? Then once dry and happy with color, add a rubbing of paste wax.
