I’ve been looking at Brown Besses of different makes and originals for weeks. Decided I’d get a new one. I was torn between a full length one or a carbine. I decided on the carbine. Yeah I know it’s a fantasy gun. I called Mr Beauchamp at Flintlocks Etc Wednesday evening and ordered myself a new Pedersoli Bess carbine. Lo and behold he is 80yrs old and a one man show, and he got this shipped and delivered to me in three days from Massachusetts to Virginia. That’s fast service! I haven’t rounded up any shot cards, balls or anything yet so I broke out a sack of jute tow and some #6 shot and played a little. The results were pretty good at 25 yards with the short barrel and just using a wad of tow between powder and shot and tow over the shot. I’ll have to say I was leery of what I’d get as far as trigger pull and touch hole position. Both are very good. The inletting is nice all the way around. The lock and ignition was way faster than I’d anticipated. The trigger pull is probably around 6 lbs. I measured the bore and it is a perfect .750. I’m very happy with it. Now to find a mold! Suggestions are welcome.
