Hi all, I finally got to fire my Hawken 50. Cal today. A .495 ball and .005 lubed patch with 70 grains of Pyrodex. Center mass at 50 yds first shot second was almost the same. Then My buddy shot it and was within an inch of mine first shot too. Anyway it shoots sweet and no issues. A very good buy used, and happy with it. Got home and my Musket nipple was delivered, I now have 1100 Musket caps to play with.

Nothing beats a good day at the range. Be sure to scrub the barrel real good, Pyrodex can ruin a bore very quickly if not cleaned and oiled after shooting.

I have never seen .005" patches for sale. Did you buy them as shooting patches or cut them from cloth yourself? Most commonly with .50 caliber guns shooting a .495 ball, the patch is .010". I generally shoot .490 round balls patched with .007" patches in my .50 caliber guns when I am shooting PRB.

Actually they are somewhat common. I use them in smoothbores all the time. Here is a link. EMSS also sells .005" patches precut lubed or dry.
