Im sorry but I didn't see the pyrodex part. If that barrel has been shot with pyro it may be pitted from the corrosive action of the pyro. I replaced my original barrel about a year ago due to using pyrodex!!!!!! That stuff is bad bad bad!!!! You need to get a bore light and see if you still have a barrel that isn't badly pitted.Sorry
 
I agree with Brown Bear in that going to a .535 ball may solve the problem. I would try that before doing anything to the crown. A good lube that I use is made by mixing 2 parts olive oil, 2 parts water and 1 part alcohol. I put it in a little squirt bottle, shake it up and squirt it on the patch.
 
My 54 GPR takes 90gr 2f with a 530 ball and .018 pillow ticking. Hits a 10 inch gong at 100 meters every time. My patch lube is bees wax and lard 50-50 mix. Ball starts hard with starter but as soon as it and the patch cleves the rifling it goes down to chamber in one smooth push of the rod. My patches are pristine after being fired. U could almost use em again.
