I'm tossing aroung the idea of picking up a GPR kit to put together and get shooting this summer. I've seen threads on putting the kits together, and browning the metal. I was wondering if anyone ever put one together and left the metal in the white or aged to a gray patina. Thought it might look nice with that type of aged finish. Also can anyone tell me if the underib is steel? If the rib isnt, could this be finished to match the rest of the gun? Thanks for the help.

The under rib on mine is steel, but it was put together as a kit back in '82.
I browned mine and left the nose cap and entry thimble unfinished to imitate pewter, and it worked.

Just :m2c:

I put together a GPR kit two years ago and the under rib was steel and I browned it like the barrel. The under rib is cast steel so you have to sand it some. I had lots of fun putting together my hawkins and I love the gun today!

Good luck!

JM,

I browned my GPR barrel and under rib, but have left a couple of guns to gray as they age. I like the gray look quite well and will likely use it for several more gun down the road.
