Grain in Curly Ash?

Have had no luck w/ oil dyes. Alcohol is the better of Febings dyes. It's reversible , repairable , and has infinite color hues , and I've not seen it fade over time. ........oldwood

Well, I've got those too. They really suck on leather, but I didn't know any better early on so I bought them because they were cheaper. Now I have a bunch of it that I doubt I'll never use on leather again?

Hi Zonie. Sorry to hear you are recommending putting Toxic flueds or solids down you waste water outlet. WE kill enough Fish and Ephemera with Domestic waste without Extra from us..

Lye is used for drain cleaner. It is cautic, not toxic.

I've got lots of Aqua Fortis, but it won't do anything to Curly Ash, NO sugar in the wood.

Kelley's Medium Brown leather dye is a staple in my shop. We bought all the very curly Ash stocks that Pecatonica had. The third and last one is about ready for staining. I keep all of LMF's stains on hand. Most of the time a heavy wash with a dark red color such as Kelly's, LMF Walnut or Lancaster Maple will bring the dark stripes out. 0000 steel wool will lighten the very dark red color and leave it nicely striped. Point is: I used the Kelly's on the Ash stock that I am finishing up now as an experiment. It is the answer For This Particular Tree.

I have a curly ash stock that A/F turned almost black. Curious

Here's another ash stock I did a while back. I put on a coat of Constantine's grain filler (no longer available) rubbed that back and then stained it with LMF Lancaster Maple stain.

Yes. Perhaps I mixed the ferric nitrate little too strong.
