Would the old-type water dippers with the long handles work for a lamp? I think I know where a couple of them are.
 
Well, sort of a yes/no answer.

Yes, they would work, but the SIZE of the dipper bowl is the problem area. If you are using already liquid veg or olive oil, then it will work. If you are using left over cooking grease, then the whole thing is too large to keep the cooking grease melted enough to flow up the wick. You would still have to create something of a "ramp" for the wick to lay up along.

A water dipper would be closer in size to make into a Betty Lamp. Install a tube for the wick to go up through, and then put a lid on top of the dipper with a hole through it for that wick tube to poke up through. Thus a Betty Lamp - that uses veg or olive oil.

Just a thought.

I agree, my mistake, Iwas looking at the pictures but the deep pan was the drip pan. The top pan is shallow. Goes to show ya where my memory is going and i made one. :shake:
