Do you guys that use grease on your shooting patches grease one or both sides of the patch?

I normally soak them in Crisco and then put them between a couple layers of paper towels and pat the excess off, so both sides are lubed. You really only need it on the barrel side, but soaking a bunch at a time is quicker.

Granny renders up a vat of possum grease every now and then and I just dip mah ticking in it to soak a spell. That youngin Jethro got into the grease with some buttermilk biscuits and ate most of it beforn I could get all mah patches lubed, if brains were lard, that boy wouldn't grease too many patches.

I cut my patching material into strips and soak them in lube the same way as was mentioned before. Both sides get coated but then I don't have to worry about which side I place down.

I use the Dutch Schoultz dry patch system,so it makes no difference witch side is down. :hmm:

 I am glad you stopped by to visit Uncle Jed...we needed a little levity around here.

have used nothing but spit patches for target but a greased patch for hunting is a good idea in foul weather.
