It's a miguelet lock, isn't it, with that long external mainspring? I (who know very little about them) would have guessed Arabic, but I see in an old antique firearms catalog several similarly shaped pistols that are identified as Balkan. The pictures in the catalog are small black and white ones, so I can't really tell how similar the decorative motifs are. That is a beautiful gun.

Nice Photos!I see turkish lines in that pistol. But really can not say origin of the piece not my forte.

I've seen lots of "turkish horse pistols" at dozens of antique shops that are designed and engraved like that.

It is a Balkan miquelet, probably Albanian or Northern Greek, say around 1800-1830. Arrowsmith is quite right, it is a kubar or horse pistol. Place of manufacture could be Istanbul, or any one of the smithing centers in the Balkans. Equally probable is that it came out of Brescia or Liege. The Ottomans imported a lot of guns from Europe, who were tripping over themselves to supply indigenous style firearms to North Africa, the Middle East, Turkey, and the Balkans.

Arrowstorm, so sorry to mess up your handle. Must have been in my 70's frame of mind.

quite alright man. wouldn't mind one bit at all if I actually made my own arrows for my bows.
