So after waiting 8 years I finally got a 58 cal green mountain barrel drop in for my hawken. One question that I do have is if anyone knows why there is a taped hole on the top of the breech plug? It is the same size and threads as the sight holes. Is this where a special tang sight goes? Thanks for the help.

It's just there for any number of sight options. There isn't a "special" one that fit's, yet several types of sight may use that.

You are correct, TC made a scope mount, that used the two holes under the rear sight, plus one additional hole, back near the breech. Only seen on the later models.

I was wondering if the barrel needed any fitting for it to fit your stock?? Just how close to drop in was it?? I'm thinking about getting one.

Thanks
Tom

The 1" barrels will sometimes need a little fitting at the end of the stock. The ram rod rib on some of the GM barrels is sometimes a little long. You will either need to inlet the stock or take the rib off and grind a little off of the end. I have 3 of the 1" barrels for a Renegade stock and 2 of them required a little inletting for the rib. The 15/16" for a Hawken stock, of which I only have one, did not have that problem.

Good luck finding a GM barrel, they are out of production and getting very difficult to find.

Hawk driver is correct. The ramrod is sticking out a tad bit, but I am going to make my own one so that isn't to much of a concern for me. Other than that the little beauty fell right in. They are hard to find I have been looking for 8 years for one and I got mine from pecotonic river long rifle supply (great people to work with too). Don't know if they still have one left. If not they can " build " one for you out of any 1" barrel for around 350. I would give them a call or email. Thanks for the info on the extra screw hole. Love this forum!
